A dedicated server can run file sharing, collaboration tools and other services inside your home or business. It offers strong local control and can be built around a dependable system such as Ubuntu Server. Keeping data on infrastructure you control can also support compliance with EU data-protection rules.
Hosted VPS
A server without keeping the hardware on site
A virtual private server can suit a larger or distributed organisation that needs services available from different locations. The server is hosted in a data centre, while access, software and data remain under your organisation's control.

Off-site backup
A second copy away from the building
A local system should not be its own only backup. An encrypted backup at a provider such as Hetzner protects important data if local hardware is lost, damaged or unavailable.

Nextcloud can provide controlled file sharing together with Collabora for documents and Nextcloud Talk for calls and chat. It can run on your own server or on a suitable hosted system.

Home Assistant brings compatible devices and automations together without making one manufacturer's cloud the centre of the home. It can run locally and continue to keep the owner in control.
YubiKey setup
Stronger protection for accounts and services
I can help set up YubiKeys for passwordless sign-in where it is supported, or as a strong second authentication step. Using modern FIDO2 or passkey-compatible authentication helps protect accounts against phishing and social-engineering attempts that try to steal passwords or login codes.

I run and maintain my own Ubuntu server, with off-site backups stored at Hetzner. I also run my own Home Assistant system for local home control and automation.
My server and backup choices are designed around EU data-protection requirements. Self-hosting gives you control over where data is stored and who can access it, while good security, access rules and backup procedures help support GDPR compliance.
That practical experience helps me design systems that are understandable, maintainable and properly backed up—not just impressive on paper.
